GPS and Mapping Guide for Beginners

A thread dedicated to those who have questions about the use of the Global Positioning System (GPS) instrument in their mobile device. Programs that can be used with your S60 device, and their associated features will also be discussed.Accronym Glossary

GPS (Global Positioning System): An internal or external device that is used to determine its location in relation to three or more satellites orbiting around the earth. This device does not use your cellular provider's wireless network for positional information.

A-GPS (Assisted Global Position System): An external assistance server that provides a GPS device information from the wireless network to enhance positioning accuracy, and response time when GPS signals may be low due to, but not limited to tall buildings, or atmospheric conditions. This server requires the use of a data service through your cellular provider's wireless network for positional information.
POI (Points of Interest): A location or point on the map that may be of interest to the user with applicable business information. Could be a gas station, the Toronto CN tower, or a Restaurant.

TTFF (Time to First Fix): The time required for a GPS device to acquire satellite information. To obtain a fix, a GPS device needs both Almanac (parameters for all satellites in the GPS constellation), and Ephemeris (precise orbital, and clock correction paramaters) data to obtain your location. There are four start types:
Factory: GPS receiver has no almanac information, and no ephemeris information. Typically a 10 - 15 minute start up.

Cold: GPS receiver has some almanac information, but no ephemeris information. Typically a 60 - 90 second start up when the GPS receiver has been off for a period of 8 - 12 hours. Most observed scenario when GPS is not used often.

Warm: GPS receiver has almanac information, and some ephemeris information. Typically a 30 - 60 second start up when the GPS receiver has been off for a period of 30 minutes.
Hot: GPS receiver has almanac information, and almost all ephemeris information. Typically a 1 - 20 second start up when the GPS receiver has been off for a period of 15 minutes or less.

1. Open Xplore program and press No 0. Thick all shows RAM and ROM folder
2. Dont close, Let the application works and background to this application
3. Goto menu and find program Hellocarbide then Open the application
4. Press Options/Menu1/yes go in Xplore c:\Hack.rar
Restart your phone and now you can be instal all applications that require signing.

HACK Navigate for free with Nokia Maps

Ok guys, I have N95 v21.0.0.16 and Nokia Maps v1.2 wk48 b01. For me, the navigation, simulation and voice guidance (like after 300 meters turn left, turn right etc) is working FINE!!!!

I never fiddled with date and anything. It simply was working for me. I will tell you guys what I did and please follow and tell me if that worked for u ppl too!

1) Install Latest Map Loader v1.35 in PC and connect the phone using "Mass Storage" mode. In Nokia Map Loader, Delete Old Maps using "Remove Existing Maps from Memory Card"
2) Now remove the phone (from mass storage) and connect the phone again in "Mass Storage" mode.
3) Start Map Loader and download the maps for your country and install it.
4) Close Map Loader and then goto http://diabo.110mb.com/symbian/indexmaps.htm and then select Maps for Nokia Maps 1.2 (the latest standard version)
5) Download the ZIP file for your country using any download manager or your browser.
6) In My Computer, Goto [memory card]\cities\diskcache\6\d\filename.cdt OR [memory card]\Private\20001f63\diskcache\6\d\filename.cdt (N95) Just make sure that you find some .CDT files within folders like 0,1 etc
7) Open the downloaded maps .zip file using WinRar. Then extract all the files to the directory in which .CDT files are found in your phone. OVERWRITE ALL FILES when asked for. Make sure that it asks for overwrite warning. If not, you are extracting in the wrong directory. Once the extraction is finished, just stop the USB cable and check if Maps is working for you (fully!)
